| Introduction
The office of the Directorate
General, Defence Estates is the Headqarters
of the Indian Defence Estates Service in the
Ministry of Defence. DGDE provides critical
and advisory inputs to the Services as well
as to Ministry of Defence in formulating policies,
Rules and Regulations etc. in respect of management
of defence lands and Cantonment administration
all over India. The DGDE also ensures implementation
of such polices , Rules and Regulations etc.The
DGDE has other important functions to perform
like responding to VIP representations, Parliament
Questions, proposals for amendments to existing
legislation on Cantonment administration and
defence land management. The DGDE has under
its administration various field formations
like the Directorates of Defence Estates, Cantonment
Board and Defence Estates Offices.
Location
It is located in “Raksha
Sampada Bhawan” close to the Delhi Airport
on Palam Road in Delhi Cantt.
Regional HQrs
There are 5 Regional HQrs familiarly
known as Directorates, Defence Estates headed
by Principal Directors, Defence Estates functioning
under this HQrs and having their offices at 5
places , namely- (1)Central Command Lucknow Cantt.
(2) Southern Command Pune Cantt. (3) Western
Command- Chandigarh (4) Eastern Command Kolkata
and (5) Northern Command - Jammu Cantt. Each
Directorate has Staff officers like Directors/Joint
Directors etc. and other officials to assist
the Principal Director.
Field Offices
There are 62 Cantonment Boards all over the Country
and they are responsible for all the municipal
duties and defence land administration work
in their respective Cantonment areas. The Cantonment
Executive Officer who functions as Secretary
to the Cantt Board is under the administrative
control of the Command HQrs and this HQrs.
There are also 30 Defence Estates Circle offices
looking after the work of Defence land management
and the circles are geographically divided.
The Defence Estates Officers are also under
the administrative control of Command HQrs
and this HQrs.
NIDEM
There is one Training Institute
known as National Institute of Defence Estates
Management (NIDEM) headed by a Director which
is responsible for imparting training in land
administration and municipal administration to
the officers of the Service and staff including
the Cantonment Board officials. This Institute
is under the administrative control of this HQrs.
